A Belfast schoolboy who was seriously injured in a road incident seven years ago has been awarded more than £1 million (€1.46 million) in damages by Belfast High Court.
Matthew McCarthy, from Twinbrook, Belfast, was in a coma for three months after he was hit by a car while playing on the Stewartstown Road in west Belfast in 1999.
The court action was settled without admission of liability against the driver and was approved by Lord Justice Campbell.
The award will be held in court to be administered by officials in co-operation with the boy's mother and lawyers.
