A female motorist was charged today with attempting to murder a woman pedestrian who was struck by a car in Belfast.
Ms Anne Margaret Jelley (30), of 35 Bloomfield Road, Belfast, denied trying to kill Ms Victoria McBride (23) early yesterday morning.
Ms McBride was hit by a grey Audi 80 as she walked along the Sydenham Road in east Belfast with two friends. She was treated for multiple fractures at the Royal Victoria Hospital, where her condition is described as stable.
A detective told Belfast Magistrates Court that when charged Ms Jelley replied: "I didn't attempt to murder anyone, and I didn't mean to cause anyone any harm."
She was also accused of failing to provide police with a breath specimen without reasonable excuse.
Ms Jelley was remanded in custody until February 9th. A bail application will be heard at the High Court tomorrow.
