Algiers - A secular party drawn from Algeria's minority Berber community, the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD), said yesterday it had pulled out of the government in the wake of bloody clashes between security forces and rioters in the north-eastern Berber region of Kabylie.

Speaking at a meeting of the RDC leadership, or national council, party leader, Mr Said Sadi, said the bloodshed in Kabylie was "a tragedy", adding that "security forces never stopped firing real bullets at demonstrators".
