Hundreds of people are expected to turn out for auditions in Dublin for Channel 4's next series of reality television show Big Brother.

The hopefuls, who must be over 18 years old, will be pinning their chances on becoming the next Ray Shah, Brian Dowling or Anna Nolan, past Irish stars from the show.

The auditions take place from midday in the RDS in Ballsbridge

The latest series of Celebrity Big Brother caused international outrage after housemate Jade Goody was accused of making racist remarks against Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty.

Shetty (31) was crowned winner of the controversial show after securing 63 per cent of the public vote.

She was the firm favourite after becoming the victim of alleged racist bullying by a number of other contestants.

Open auditions to enter this summer's house have already taken place in Glasgow, Cardiff, Newcastle and Birmingham.

Dublin-born Nolan, an ex-novice nun, was the runner-up in the first series of the reality show, while Co Kildare cabin crew supervisor Dowling scooped more than four million votes to win the second series of the show in 2001.

Dubliner Ray Shah also finished second in another series of the show.
