A biker shot dead on the M40 motorway at the weekend is thought to have been followed before being targeted in a pre-planned hit, police said today.
The victim, named as Canadian Gerard Michael Tobin (35), died after being shot in the back of the head as he drove on the motorway in Warwickshire on Sunday afternoon.
Detectives believe Mr Tobin, a mechanic who lived in south London, had been targeted after being followed from the Bulldog Bash, an annual event for bikers held nearby that attracts people from around the world.
"It seems likely that this was a pre-planned event and . . . not a random attack," Det Supt Ken Lawrence said.
He said a green Rover 620 had pulled out of a lay-by on the A46 and then appeared to follow Mr Tobin and two friends onto the M40 as they drove home after the Bulldog Bash.
Just after junction 13, the car, which had two or three people inside, pulled close to the victim's bike before he was shot. The Rover drove on.
Witnesses reported two shots were fired.
