Tony Blair will today give his last speech to Britain's Trade Union Congress (TUC) as Prime Minister and party leader.
Mr Blair will speak in Brighton following calls from a union leader for him to step down immediately and appeals from Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott for the Labour Party to return to "normal business".
Many delegates are understood to be angry at what they see is the creeping privatisation of public services and Mr Blair's stance on Israel's invasion of Lebanon.
Some union activists are threatening to walk out during the Mr Blair's speech.
But other union leaders are expected to give Mr Blair a warm welcome - although he will face strong criticism during a question-and-answer session afterwards.
Chancellor Gordon Brown will attend a private dinner with TUC leaders tonight. Yesterday, union leaders appeared to signal that the row over the leadership will continue to dominate the conference today.
Mr Blair last week joked it would be a "relief" to be speaking at the conference as prime minister for the last time. The TUC represents 66 unions and nearly seven million workers.
