London - British Prime Minister Mr Tony Blair yesterday put Labour's record on the economy firmly at the heart of his electoral strategy.
On the eve of MPs' return from what will almost certainly be the last recess before a general election is called, Mr Blair said the choice facing voters would be between an "economically competent" Labour and a Tory Party whose financial policies were "hopeless".
A second Labour term would deliver the fruits of the government's success in cutting the British debt and bringing down unemployment, with cash now available for sustained investment in public services, he said.
Mr Blair said he was "proud" that Labour was now able to attract such largescale support from successful entrepreneurs, who would traditionally have been expected to back the Conservatives.
