The British Prime Minister Tony Blair has asked for the House of Commons to be recalled during the week of September 23 for a one-day debate on Iraq.
The request was made in writing to the speaker of the house, Michael Martin, who is to fix a precise date in consultation with all the political parties represented in parliament.
Blair, who strongly backs US President George W. Bush on the need to confront Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein, has been under growing pressure to recall parliament from its summer recess to discuss the Iraq question.
The House of Commons is scheduled to resume its normal business on October 15.
