A majority of Britons now approve of Prime Minister Tony Blair's handling of the Iraq crisis, a sharp rise from levels before the military campaign began, a new poll showed today.
The ICM poll said 56 per cent of those asked said they believed Mr Blair's handling had been "about right", while 26 per cent thought he had been "too firm" in launching a war against Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
Mr Blair, facing the most critical moment of his six-year premiership due to widespread opposition to the war in Britain, had an approval rating of 40 per cent in a March 17th poll.
And the News of the World, which was to publish the new ICM poll in its Sunday edition, said support two weeks ago was just 29 per cent. Only 13 per cent of the 513 adults polled thought the U.S.-led forces should stop the war.
