MEN want fun, with a lass who likes a glass, while women want love, and roses. The old story. Some see stars, others seek bars. According to a recent survey, when asked what they were looking for in a relationship the men said "fun and friendship", the women "love and romance". And 98 per cent of the men "want to meet someone who drinks."
Brains do not seem terribly important either where the men are concerned. For 90 per cent of them "educational level" is not an issue in choosing a woman, while 40 per cent of the women believe it is "paramount" in a man.
The survey, conducted during December and January by the Dublin based introductions agency Who's Who For The Unattached also indicates that men like their women younger.
Modesty would seem to be in short supply among the men, too. Nearly half of them (45 per cent) believe themselves to be "very attractive", while 35 per cent consider themselves merely "attractive". A humble 20 per cent think themselves "average".
Which makes one wonder how, as a group, the men believe their great weakness is being "shy".
But the men are not without their little insecurities. A note with the survey tells us they "tend to overestimate their height." This is not entirely surprising as, despite all the protestations that, above all else, women look for soul in theirs man, what they really want to do is look up to him. Their main priority is that he be "tall". Next, he must be "financially secure", after which they will settle for him being "caring", "faithful", with a "sense of humour" and in that order. Fidelity you will notice is nicely down the women's list. It doesn't feature at all where the men are concerned. What, in truth, the women want then is a tall, wealthy, educated, older man, who doesn't have to be terribly caring. Or faithful. Or good humoured. Funny old thing, romance.
