The Blood Transfusion Service Board has rejected claims by a Cork University Hospital professor regarding its "proposal" to abandon the testing of blood products in Cork.

Prof. Fergus Shanahan, in a letter in yesterday's Irish Times, asked whether, "internal (Dublin/Cork) disharmony within the BTSB could be the underlying motive?".

The board said there was no definite plan to close the blood-product testing facility in Cork. It said it had "simply requested the Chief Executive Officer and the National Medical Director . . . to prepare a report on the practical implications . . . of developing a single site for donation testing."
