Gardaí have suspended their search of a stretch of Dublin's Grand Canal in Clondalkin where the body of a man was found earlier today.

The body is believed to be one of two young men who went missing from their homes in the Clondalkin area last weekend.

The body - which has not been formally identified - was found between the ninth and eleventh locks of the canal this morning.

Garda divers spent the day searching the waters after the discovery of a shoe near the canal in the Fonthill Road area of Clondalkin.

Gardaí said they are "very concerned" for the safety of the pair. A Garda spokeswoman said it was "totally out of character" for the men to go missing in the way they did.

When last seen Mr White was wearing blue jeans, navy Timberland boots, blue shirt and a light blue stripey top. He is described as being of slim build with short brown hair and approximately 188cm in height. He has a tattoo of a leprechaun on his upper right arm.

Mr Coughlan was wearing navy Adidas tracksuit bottoms, a striped jumper and a Von Dutch-make zip top.

Gardai say the search will resume in the morning.

Anyone with information on either of the men is asked to ring Clondalkin gardai on 6667600 or Tallaght on 6666000.
