Body of Thai crash victim flown home

The body of a Northern Ireland victim of the Thailand air crash will be returned to his family home tonight.

Aaron Toland (22), was one of 89 people who died after the One-Two-Go flight crashed while landing in heavy rain at the Thai resort of Phuket on Sunday.

Mr Toland's father Myles accompanied the remains to Dublin Airport and a hearse carrying the coffin was given a Garda escort towards the Border.

The University of Ulster graduate was on a backpacking trip to Thailand with his friend Chris Cooley, who is still recovering in hospital.

The body will be driven from Dublin Airport to a local undertakers and later onward to Mr Toland's home in Drumard Park in the Hazelbank area of Derry.

Mr Toland and Mr Cooley had spent a few days in the Thai capital before boarding the flight to Phuket.

Two other survivors with Irish passports, John O'Donnell from Co Clare, and his friend, William Burke, from Co Tipperary are still recovering in hospital from extensive burns.

Their families also travelled to Thailand this week.

Mr O'Donnell (26), who worked as a plasterer in Liscannor, was just days into a month-long trip around Thailand with Mr Burke.
