Gardaí in Longford are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a woman after her body was discovered early this morning.
According to a garda spokesman her body was discovered at the back of a business premises in a laneway off Kilashee Street at about 8am.
It is believed the woman suffered serious head and face injuries.
The area has been sealed off and a team from the Garda Technical Bureau are at the scene.
This evening gardaí appealed for the public's help in identifying the woman.
The woman is described as being between 5'1" to 5'5" in height of small build with short brown hair. She is believed to be in her late teens or early twenties.
She was wearing a navy "L.A. Gear" tracksuit top and bottom. The jacket was of the zip type and had pink piping a pink waist band and badge on the left side with the number 75. She also wore a cream v-neck long-sleeved jumper.
Gardaí have also appealed to anyone who was in the Killahee Street/St Bridget's Terrace area of Longford between 6pm yesterday and 8.50am this morning to contact them.
