A car recovered from a river in Northern Ireland containing a body may have ended up there because of a road accident, police believe.
A recovery operation took place in the River Moyola in Co Derry yesterday after a member of the public initially came across tyre tracks leading into the water at a bridge.
Police were, however, unable to find anything at the scene at Derrynoid Road in Draperstown.
However officers were led to the car by another member of the public who subsequently spotted it in the river.
It is understood the car may have smashed into the river a few days earlier.
In a separate incident in Co Armagh another body was recovered yesterday from a lake.
The discovery was made shortly before 1pm in Clay Lake in Keady on the Lower Clay Road.
It is understood the victim, a man in his forties, had been missing for a fortnight. He was found by the Mourne Underwater search team. Foul play was not suspected.
