A 37-year-old woman was alleged in court yesterday to have admitted bringing blast bombs into Portadown a week before Constable Frank O'Reilly was fatally injured in a loyalist protest over Drumcree.
A Crown lawyer made the claim in Belfast High Court during a bail application by Ms Pauline Crothers, from Green hill Park, Lurgan, who had been remanded in custody last month on charges of conspiracy to murder and possessing explosives and a gun.
The defence barrister, Mr Barry Gibson, said the alleged admissions were not accepted. "It is the defence case that during police interviews at Castlereagh there were clear inducements regarding bail and access to her children," he said.
"In fact, she was in such an emotional state that a doctor said she should not be interviewed, but he was overruled by another doctor."
Bail was refused.
