Bomb car not part of road rage incident
The dissident republican who drove a car-bomb to the BBC Television Centre is not now believed to have been in an argument with another driver before the explosion, according to British police yesterday, writes Rachel Donnelly.
It had been thought that the driver was involved in a road rage incident as he drove the bomb in a taxi to west London on Saturday night. However, Scotland Yard said that, following further inquiries into evidence of the driver who had been in an argument with the driver of a red taxi, it was now believed that the incident occurred earlier than reported.
It was also "less likely" to have had anything to do with the bomb-carrying taxi, which police believe was part of a "Real IRA" bombing campaign in Britain. A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "We cannot rule out that the altercation may still have involved the suspect taxi, which could have been in the area on a trial run."
