Bomb defused outside NI agriculture office

A bomb at the Stormont headquarters of Northern Ireland's Department of Agriculture was defused today.

A bomb at the Stormont headquarters of Northern Ireland's Department of Agriculture was defused today.

British army bomb disposal experts dealt with what was described by police as a "crude, anti-personnel type device" at Dundonald House on the Stormont estate.

They also removed a number of other items from the scene for further examination.

The building was not evacuated as police managed to isolate the bomb.

Dundonald House also houses the headquarters of the Northern Ireland Prison Service.

A Prison Service spokesman said: "This type of indiscriminate attack which places the lives of anyone handling such a package at risk from serious injury or worse is to be utterly condemned."
