A controlled explosion was carried out on a bomb in Dublin earlier today.
The viable device was found near Clarehall Shopping Centre in Darndale, north Dublin, before midnight and reported to gardaí.
“The team arrived on scene at 12.07am, following a Garda request to attend,” said a spokesman for the Defence Forces.
“A controlled explosion was carried out.
“The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) contained explosive content.”
The Army’s bomb disposal officer gave the all clear again at 2.30am.
The remains of the device were handed over to gardaí at the scene for their investigation into the incident.
In a second incident a suspect device was thrown at a house on Barry Drive, Finglas last night.
Gardaí said the device, believed to be a petrol bomb, was thrown at the house at around 11pm last night.
No one was injured in the incident however, the exterior of the house and a vehicle parked outside were damaged.
