Ankara - One person was killed and 24 wounded, five of them seriously, when a bomb placed in a rubbish bin in an Istanbul park exploded yesterday evening, the NTV television news channel reported.
The explosion occurred around 10.30 p.m. (8.30 p.m. Irish time) in the Avcilar quarter on the European side of the city, it said.
The bomb blast came five days after a court condemned Abdullah Ocalan, the leader of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), to death for waging war on the Turkish state in pursuit of a Kurdish homeland.
