A child and two adults have been killed and another 22 injured in a bomb explosion in a tourist area of Columbia.

The device went off in a home in a poor neighbourhood of Cartagena, a popular tourist destination in northern Colombia.

Police believe the bomb exploded accidentally and are investigating whether it was being stored for a later terrorist attack.

The early morning explosion occurred while most people in the neighbourhood were sleeping.

An 8-year-old boy, a 60-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were killed in the explosion, police said.
