The Army bomb disposal unit was called to Balbriggan Garda station in Co Dublin today after two "shell-like" objects were handed in by fishermen.

The devices - 14 inches long and three inches in diameter - were found in fishing nets off the Co Dublin coast this morning. It is not clear what the devices were or how old they were.

Gormanston Army Camp in Co Meath is beside Balbriggan, but a Garda spokesman said the two objects did not appear to belong to Irish Defence Forces.

The bomb disposal unit went to the Garda station to deal with the devices and has taken them away for examination.
