A BRITISH book distributor, Thames and Hudson, has had to cancel two scheduled book signings at extremely short notice, including one in Dublin last night, following the bombing in Manchester on Saturday.
Male Supermodels: The Men of Boss Models was launched recently in London.
On Monday, the distributor received notification from the New York agency saying it would not be sending personnel to the book signings scheduled for Manchester that day, or to Hodges Figgis in Dublin yesterday. Their concern was with "safety considerations".
A spokesman for Boss Models told The Irish Times yesterday he found it "peculiar so many of you people over there don't understand" why they found the cancellation necessary and at such extremely short notice.
"Perhaps you are accustomed in Ireland and Britain to a whole shopping mall disappearing in a bomb, but we are not in the US," he said. "Maybe you are more familiar with the situation, but we have to defer to the level of concern among our people about going there."
A spokesman for Hodges Figgis said the book, primarily photographs of American male models striking poses, was "not doing very well".
