A book of condolence for the Queen Mother is to be opened this afternoon in Belfast, as the British Parliament holds a special sitting to pay its respect to the royal who died over the weekend.
A Northern Ireland Office said a book of condolences at Hillsborough Castle will be opened at 4 p.m. and will close at 8 p.m. People can go to sign the book between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on subsequent days.
The British Embassy in Dublin has also opened a book of condolence from 9 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
British Prime Minister, Mr Tony Blair, lead the tributes to the Queen Mother at the Parliament in London today as MPs and peer returned to Westminster to pay their public respects.
The Queen Mother’s coffin will lie in state in the Westminster Hall, the until the funeral at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday.
The Northern Ireland Assembly will be recalled tomorrow morning, and leaders of the political parties will be given 10 minutes each to pay tribute to the Queen Mother.
On Monday, Belfast joined with cities across Britain and Gibraltar at midday in a 41-gun salute as a mark of respect for the Queen Mother.
The salute, at Hillsborough Castle, took the form of guns firing at intervals of roughly once a minute for 40 minutes.
