A new book examining the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for Irish public services will be presented to President Mary McAleese.
The presentation will take place at a special ceremony to mark the 50 thanniversary of the Institute of Public Administration (IPA).
IPA director general John Cullen said: "We have arrived at a natural pause in the public service reform process and the book provides an opportunity to reflect on not only the qualities of the public service but also those characteristics that prevent the public service from reaching its full potential."
The 315-page book addresses the challenges that lie ahead for public services across the country.
It includes chapters on quality of life issues in Ireland, economic performance, physical and social infrastructure and governance.
A number of contributions are included by leading figures including Dermot McCarthy, Secretary to the Government, the former leader of the Labour Party Ruairi Quinn, Trinity economist Dr Sean Barrett, Professor Brendan Drumm, CEO of the Health Service Executive and the former Fine Gael leader Alan Dukes.
President McAleese will make an address before unveiling a 50th anniversary plaque to mark the occasion.
The ceremony will take place in Dublin Castle.
