Representatives of the four unions represented at Bord na Mona have decided to hold two one day stoppages to protest at what they see as a failure by the company to honour a pay agrement.
The representatives of SIPTU, AMICUS, TWU, and ATGWU have decided to hold the stoppages on Monday, November 1st and Monday, November 8th.
A spokesperson for the unions said the action would only be cancelled if Bord na Mona delivered the second half of a 6 per cent pay increase, agreed last February. The first 3 per cent was paid in March, and the second one was due last month.
The increases are on top of those due under the terms of the National Wage Agreement but the company queried the level of productivity achieved as part of the pay rise.
Over 2,000 Bord na Mona staff voted for strike action on Monday as a result of a long-running pay dispute at the company.
The are believed to be favouring a one day stoppage during the week beginning November 1st and a second stoppage the following week.
A spokesperson for the ESB said that the industrial action will not have any immediate effect on electricity supply.
The only peat-burning station currently contributing to the national grid is Bellacorrick in Co Mayo, and this plant is due to be closed next year. The ESB is currently building two now peat-burning power stations in Lanesboro, Co Longford, and Shannonbridge, Co Offaly.
