Police in Bosnia-Herzegovina say there is no reason to suspect foul play in the death of a woman thought to be Winifred Brady (59) whose body was found yesterday in Medjugorje.

Ms Brady from Kilbarrack in Dublin went missing last September while on pilgrimage with a group of friends.

Her body - which has not been formally identified - was discovered by hunters three kilometres from the guesthouse where she was staying.

Bosnian police informed the Department of Foreign Affairs this evening that they would release the results of a postmortem tomorrow.

But they said there was no indication that the cause of death was the result of a violent or criminal action.

Ms Brady'shusband, Stephen, is due to arrive in Medjugorje tonight to identify the body.

But police said that if identification is not possible they will use DNA testing which may take several weeks.

The Department of Foreign Affairs has sent an official from the Irish embassy in the Slovenia to liaise with local authorities and the European Union Police Mission in Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Ms Brady was on her third visit to Medjugorje and was with a party of neighbours and friends from the Kilbarrack area of  Dublin city.

She suffered from arthritis and was unable to accompany her friends to a prayer meeting on the morning of September 6th.

It is understood that she remained at the guesthouse and went out for a stroll at about 1pm - but was not seen again.
