Mark Bosnich today launched an appeal against the Premier League ruling that he was not unfairly dismissed by Chelsea after his positive drugs test for cocaine.

The Australian goalkeeper, 31, notified the league hours before last night's expiry of the seven-day period he had to appeal after last Tuesday's verdict.

Bosnich, who reportedly claims he failed the drugs test because a drink had been spiked without his knowledge, will have his appeal heard within the next fortnight.

His case will be heard by a four-man Football League appeals committee, chaired by a lawyer and including representatives from the Premier League, Professional Footballers' Association and League Managers Association.
