An amusing paradox in Confessions made me take special note of Chateau de Gourgazaud Minervois 1994 (outlets above usually £5.49). In 1988 Jancis Robinson decided to buy a house in France - in the Languedoc, not a "serious" wine area and thus ideal for escape from work. Little did she realise that, because of the pioneering efforts of this property nearby, and a few others, the Languedoc was about to become one of the busiest wine-producing regions on the planet. This soft red, all spiced plums and autumn sunshine, explains why. Outstanding value.
