A THREE-YEAR-OLD boy was killed in Letterkenny, Co Donegal, yesterday when he was hit by a refuse lorry outside his home.
Patrick McDonagh had been out playing in the quiet cul-de-sac at the Ballymacool estate when the bin lorry was doing its weekly collection.
A public health nurse who was visiting another house in the estate attempted to resuscitate the boy and called for an ambulance.
However, the boy was pronounced dead on arrival at Letterkenny General Hospital.
The boy’s parents, Patrick and Shirley McDonagh, had returned from England around 15 months ago. The boy has a twin sister, Megan.
Fr Eamon Kelly, administrator at the nearby St Eunan’s Cathedral, visited the family, and said: “It is heart-breaking for the family and the whole community to have a wee boy taken so suddenly like that – no family deserves that.”
