Three 14-year-old boys have been charged with causing damage costing €10,000 to a juvenile institution during a stand-off where they allegedly barricaded themselves into a room and refused to come out.
Judge Catherine Murphy heard at the Dublin Children's Court that the three boys, who were in detention in St Lawrence's Institution in the Finglas Child and Adolescent Centre, barricaded themselves into a room there for hours and caused substantial damages to property.
Staff at the institution were forced to call gardaí on Sunday night after they had difficulties with the three teenagers, the court heard.
Garda Aiden Flanagan told the court that when he arrived at the facility, staff members brought him to the TV room.
The three boys were inside and had piled up furniture to block its door, he said.
Efforts were made for two hours to negotiate with the boys.
Eventually the door was forced and gardaí wearing riot helmets entered the room, Garda Flanagan said.
Mr Brian Lavery, Deputy Director of the Finglas Child and Adolescent Centre, said he was prepared to take only two of the boys back to the facility.
Judge Murphy remanded the other boy in custody to the Trinity House Detention Centre.
