The Braun factory in Carlow is to close with the loss of 160 of the 260 jobs based there, the company said today.
In a statement Procter and Gamble, which owns Braun, said following a review of its operations it had decided to merge manufacturing operations at its Carlow and Newbridge factories.
One of the main reasons was a decision by Braun to stop producing its gas-powered cordless haircare products due to a fall in demand.
As part of the restructuring, around 100 staff and remaining product lines will transfer to Newbridge in a process that will start this summer and continue on a phased basis for 12 months.
