Gardai in Galway are confident of a breakthrough in their investigation into the murder of a 22-year-old shop assistant last weekend.
Throughout the week they issued detailed descriptions of the two "hippie-type" men who were involved in the fatal stabbing of Mr Malcolm O'Shaughnessy near Galway city centre early last Saturday, and have been pleased with the response from the public.
A senior Garda spokesman said: "It would be incorrect to say that we have the names of the two people involved, but we have very good descriptions and are hopeful of an early breakthrough."
He renewed the appeal for anyone who was waiting outside Claddagh Cabs, at William Street West, at about 2 a.m. on Saturday to come forward.
