London - Women with silicone gel breast implants were warned yesterday that the risk of them rupturing is much higher than previously claimed. The manufacturers say the risk is between 0.2 per cent and 1.1 per cent. But American scientists allege the actual figure is far greater - claiming that women who have the implants for 12 years or more run a 50 per cent risk of them rupturing. After 20 years the chance of a leak increases to 95 per cent, according to their report in the medical journal, the Lancet, yesterday. --(PA)
