Political activist Osgur Breathnach was given more time yesterday to try to prevent his home in Dún Laoghaire from being possessed by a mortgage company.
County registrar Susan Ryan was told that the property Mr Breathnach had bought with a €460,000 mortgage in 2008 was now valued at less than half that price and had an outstanding balance of €508,000.
She allowed time for a new firm of solicitors to take instructions from Mr Breathnach and adjourned to February 12th.
Anne Lawlor, for Springboard Mortgages, said it was anxious to proceed with the application for possession of the house at Highthorn Park, Dún Laoghaire, Co Dublin, with arrears now at €53,203.
Ms Ryan heard that Mr Breathnach, who is in receipt of social welfare benefit, had been refused mortgage supplement benefit, a decision that was still under appeal.
Mr Breathnach had been convicted of taking part in the 1976 hold-up of a mail train at Sallins but in 1980 he was acquitted by the appeal court.
