Britain's Princess Anne has met the President, Mrs McAleese, during an honorary visit to Dublin.

Britain's Princess Anne has met the President, Mrs McAleese, during an honorary visit to Dublin.

She arrived at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel this morning before being taken to Áras an Uachtaráin for her first meeting with the President since 2002, when they both attended a rugby match at Lansdowne Road.

During her visit, she was due to attend a riding demonstration at the Irish Defence Forces Equitation School at McKee Barracks and the Cork Dry Gin Sailor of the Year Awards at the Old Jameson Distillery, Smithfield.

She was also to confer an honorary MBE on Ms Julitta Clancy, founder member of the Meath Peace Group.

Princess Anne's last official visit to Ireland was in January 1996 when she opened the British Embassy building on Merrion Road, Dublin.
