British Airways (BA) and KLM are joining forces to ease problems caused by fewer people flying to the Middle East.
They have signed a six-month partnership that means both airlines will alter flight frequencies to some Middle East airports.
They will still allow frequent flyer members to earn points on either airline.
The arrangement will mean BA temporarily suspending its four-times-a-week schedule between Heathrow and Dammam in Saudi Arabia but adding an extra flight to and from Muscat.
KLM will continue its Amsterdam-Dammam services but will temporarily suspend its Amsterdam-Muscat flights.
BA will operate two daily services between Heathrow and Dubai; KLM will operate one daily service between Amsterdam and Dubai.
Both carriers intend to reintroduce their suspended services when market conditions "sufficiently improve".
