A British couple were found dead at their home in Tenerife, Spanish police said.
The badly decomposed bodies were discovered in an apartment in the resort of Playa de Las Americas.
Police were reportedly alerted after neighbours noticed a smell coming from the property.
Officers broke in and found the bodies of a man, aged 57, and a 69-year-old woman.
Spanish police said the couple’s bodies were found at their apartment yesterday morning.
Detectives are investigating and postmortem examinations are being carried out.
A spokesman said he believed the couple lived in the popular tourist resort.
No arrests were made in connection with the deaths, he said.
Police believe the pair may have died of natural causes and said there did not appear to be any signs of violence, according to reports in the Spanish press.
But witnesses reportedly described seeing blood in the complex.
A spokesman for the Foreign Office confirmed it was aware of the deaths of two Britons on the island.
