A British High Court judge ruled today that the licence modification allowing ships from
the so-called US ghost fleet to be broken up in Britain "cannot stand".
The decision was a victory for Friends of the Earth, which is battling to stop the "toxic" ships being dismantled by Able UK on Teesside.
The High Court had blocked any work being carried out on dismantling the US Navy vessels contaminated with toxic chemicals when they reach the Hartlepool shipyard until legal challenges against the plan had been heard.
The injunction was granted until this week, and today the court ruled it should remain in place.
