Blackrock College swapped rugby for GAA yesterday, as Dublin footballer Alan Brogan launched the school’s annual St Patrick’s Day badge campaign.
Now in its 22nd year, transition year pupils at the school will be on the streets selling adhesive green shamrock badges in the run up to St Patrick’s Day, in aid of charities Goal and Aidlink.
Raising more than €2 million to support those living in poverty since 1990, pupils at the school manage all aspects of the project themselves, from ordering the badges to advertising and sales.
Speaking at the campaign launch at the school’s Jubilee Hall yesterday, 2011 All-Ireland football winner Brogan said: “I’m delighted to help the transition year students kick-start the 2012 St Patrick’s Day badges campaign. It’s a great initiative that has done so much for so many people during the past 22 years.”
The badges, which cost €2, will be on sale on the streets of Dublin and selected cities and towns, over the St Patrick’s Day weekend.
They can also be purchased online at goal-aidlink.ie.
