Two men facing charges in connection with the hijacking of a lorry in Co Meath last week have been granted bail.

The lorry, carrying 22 pallets of vodka worth €300,000, was hijacked near Dunshaughlin on April 10th as it was being driven to Dublin from Co Longford.

Simon Maxwell (40) and brother Thomas (42), with addresses in Co Westmeath, were charged last week under Section 17 of the Criminal Justice (Theft and Fraud) Act for handling stolen property.

Their application for bail was refused by Longford District Court on Tuesday after Judge John Neilan said he had concerns about the source of a €30,000 surety being offered by a cousin of the two men.
