London - The sporting hero, Frank Bruno, was reportedly battling to save his marriage last night. The 36-year-old former world heavyweight champion and his wife Laura (34) were said to be still in love and trying desperately to resolve their problems.
The couple, together for 16 years and married since 1990, saw their problems hit the headlines with reports that Laura had won a court order banning him from assaulting her. Laura was said to have secured the High Court order after what friends reportedly described as a series of rows and violent outbursts between the couple.
A family lawyer and friend of the Brunos, Mr Henri Brandman, confirmed yesterday there were difficulties in the marriage but said neither separation nor divorce proceedings were being contemplated.
Mrs Bruno was reported to have obtained a "non-molestation" order from a judge while her husband was at the "People's Lunch" to celebrate the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh's golden wedding.
