CUBA: Cuban pianist Ruben Gonzalez who gained fame playing for the Buena Vista Social Club, died on Monday in his Havana home. He had suffered from severe arthritis, lung, kidney and other ailments.
"He was ill for months, but remained at home," his wife Ms Eneida Lima said.
Gonzalez gained international attention in his twilight years as part of the Buena Vista project organized by US guitarist Ry Cooder. Buena Vista Social Club leader Compay Segundo and singer-composer Ibrahim Ferrer also died this year.
