One of the largest construction sites in the Republic was empty yesterday after unofficial strike action by over 700 construction workers. They walked off the 104-acre Xerox Technology Park in Dundalk, Co Louth, which will employ close to 2,000 when completed.

The construction workers are members of the TEEU union, which said the action was unofficial but conciliation talks would take place at the Labour Relations Commission tomorrow. The dispute is between the workers and subcontractor on site.

It is believed the men walked out in protest over the non-payment of a bonus.

They are due back on site this morning but are determined to continue their fight for the bonus to be paid.
