The number of fraud, deception and burglary offences have all increased significantly, according to the latest crime figures.
There was also an increase in the number of murder and manslaughter offences in the year to September 2012, according to the figures from the Central Statistics Office.
Fifty-five murder and manslaughter offences were recorded in the year, an increase of three. However, the overall number of homicides dropped.
The number of offences of dangerous driving leading to death was down from 26 to nine in the same 12-month period.
There was also drop in all other recorded crimes, including drugs and weapons offences, the CSO figures reveal.
Burglaries rose by 7.9 per cent, or 2,099 incidents, in the year to the end of September.
Fraud, deception and related offences also increased. There were 5,590 such recorded incidents, a rise of 6.2 per cent, from 5,265 to 5,590.
Recorded public order offences were down 12 per cent from 50,986 to 44,874, a drop of 6,112.
Drink driving offences were significantly down, a drop of 8.5 per cent, from 9,239 to 8,457.
