A bus driver today appeared before Dublin District Court in connection with a crash at Wellington Quay which killed five people.
Mr Kenneth Henvey (46) from Whitethorn Crescent, Clondalkin, Dublin was charged with dangerous driving causing the death of five people last February.
He was granted bail of €5,000 with no cash or surety required and will again before Dublin District Court on October 5th at 10.30 a.m.
Detective Sergeant John Doyle told the court Mr Henvey made no reply when the charges were read out to him.
Judge James McDonnell said he wanted an explanation for why some of the national media had broadcast the charges against Henvey before he appeared in court. He said there were three interested parties in the case.
They were Mr Henvey, who had a constitutional right to a presumption of innocence. The injured people and their families, who had a right to expect proceedings to be conducted in a fashion which would not heighten their sense of loss and the Director of Public Prosecution.
Judge McDonnell acknowledged the constitutional right of the media to report on court proceedings. But he requested the DPP to consider what steps were necessary to ensure the integrity of the continuing prosecution, before Mr Henvey appeared again.
