Dublin Bus workers have rejected a Labour Court award which offered them a five per cent pay increase and lump sums of £1,000.

Members of the NBRU and SIPTU unions voted by 55 per cent to 45 per cent to reject the offer. A previous Labour Court award was rejected by 2:1.

Commenting on the result last night, the general secretary of the NBRU, Mr Peter Bunting, warned the Government against attempting to introduce any elements of the viability plan ahead of reaching agreement with the unions. The Minister for Public Enterprise, Ms O'Rourke, is expected to be briefed on the situation later today.
