US President Mr George W Bush arrived in Poland today on a one-day visit to meet with Polish officials and deliver a major policy speech on his vision for Europe in the 21st century.

Mr Bush, who arrived from Gothenburg, Sweden where he attended his first US-EU summit, was greeted by Mr Andrzej Majkowski, the foreign policy advisor to President Aleksander Kwasniewski, before heading into the city to meet with his Polish counterpart and Prime Minister Jerzy Buzek.

Later in the day, Mr Bush will go to Warsaw University to deliver a major policy address on European security that will contain a strong pledge of US support for EU and NATO enlargement.

The US leader said yesterday that he wanted to see more eastern European countries admitted into NATO and the European Union and said Moscow should not regard this enlargement as a threat.
