The US President George W Bush has promised to mount an all-out effort to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, but said he had no illusions about the difficulty of achieving that goal.

"The United States is strongly committed to finding a just settlement in the Middle East. That settlement must lead to two states, Israel and Palestine, living side by side in peace and security," Bush said in his weekly radio address from his ranch in central Texas, where he was meeting with British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

"I have no illusions about the difficulty of this mission. Yet our determination is strong," Bush added.

The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is topping the agenda at Bush's weekend summit with Blair.

They had initially planned to focus primarily on efforts to oust Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein as part of an expanded war against terrorism, launched in response to the September 11th attacks on the United States.
