Businessman tied up in Down raid

A businessman was tied up and robbed in a Co Down village early this morning.

A businessman was tied up and robbed in a Co Down village early this morning.

The 59-year-old was tied to a chair by two men who demanded money. The incident happened in Belfast Road area in the village of Loughbrickland at 7.30am.

The two culprits wore dark fleeces, jeans and woolen hats. One may have spoken with a foreign accent, according to a PSNI spokeswoman.

They left with a considerable amount of cash in the man's Fiat Cargo van. The van, registration number WCZ3654, has Newry Tyre Centre written on the side.

The man managed to phone police who arrived to untie him. Detectives in Newry are asking for witnesses or those with information to come forward.
